With an area of 327 km², the municipality of Llucmajor is the largest municipality on the Balearic island of Mallorca. Around 37,000 inhabitants speak the official languages Catalan and Spanish. The municipality of Llucmajor comprises 16 towns. One of these is the small town of the same name. With around 12,500 inhabitants, it serves as the administrative seat of the municipality. The coastal area of Llucmajor is characterized by a steep coastline with narrow bays. The town is located around 15 kilometers from Palma Airport and lies at the foot of the Puig de Randa mountain. The fact that the town is also about 15 kilometers from the coast contributes to the fact that the town is not touristy. This shows just how big the differences can be on the Balearic island: A few kilometers away there is a party atmosphere, but in Llucmajor you will find a seclusion and tranquillity that is just as characteristic of Mallorca as, for example, the Ballermann. The inhabitants of the town, which is synonymous with peace and tranquillity, live mainly from agriculture and shoe production. The townscape is both idyllic and worth seeing: beautiful, sometimes old houses and narrow streets make Llucmajor just as unique as the fish market hall built in 1915 and the market square, which is located in the heart of the town. This is also where most of the restaurants and cafés are located. This idyllic picture is further enhanced by the fields of almond and apricot trees that surround the town.
